Realize Personalized Band Solution

At Puget Sound Bariatric Center, we are proud to offer the Realize Band procedure – generally considered to be the safest adjustable gastric band solution.

Realize earned FDA approval in November 2007, but was first commercialized in Switzerland and other Western European countries as The Swedish Band in 1996 (the name was changed to Realize in 2007). The Realize Band was developed at Huddage University Hospital in 1985 in Sweden, and over 94,000 bands have been sold in over 54 countries worldwide.

Realize MySuccess is a personalized and interactive tool designed to help enable your long-term success. You and your surgeon can set goals and continually watch your progress together – for up to 3 years – so that your doctor can intervene precisely when needed to keep you on track. With Realize MySuccess, you’ll establish a tailored progress plan, to develop new healthy habits in the areas of physical activity, nutrition, and emotional well-being. Contact Puget Sound Surgical Center to obtain a 12-digit Surgeon’s Practice ID, which will allow you to access Realize MySuccess from the information gathering stage all the way through surgery.

Realize Band System Placement

Minimally Invasive Approach

The Realize Band is implanted using laparoscopic surgery – a procedure that involves smaller incisions and less tissue trauma than open surgery – resulting in shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, smaller scars, and less pain than open surgical procedures.

Least Traumatic Procedure

The surgery does not permanently change the anatomy of the stomach and intestines, so the Realize Band can be removed if necessary. Please keep in mind that reversal surgery is not simple, and weight gain is likely for people who have their bands removed. Patients getting a Realize Band may experience less time under anesthesia versus gastric bands with sutured ports.

Adjustable Treatment

The Realize Adjustable Gastric Band comes in one size. Restriction is tailored through the adjustment process by adding and/or removing saline from the band via the port. This allows you to feel full sooner and stay full longer after an adjustment. The inside of the band has a soft balloon that can hold up to 9cc of saline. This low-pressure balloon was designed to reduce tissue trauma.
